Bundesliga Returns To GOL TV Canada

The German Bundesliga returns to GOL TV Canada this weekend with two matches featurning a pair of heavyweights. Hamburg v. Schalke on Saturday, August 21 at 12:25 p.m. EST and the next day, Borussia Dortmund hosts Bayer Leverkusen  at 11:25 a.m. EST.

Michael Ballack re-signed for Bayer Leverkusen, the club he left in 2002 to join Bayern Munich before opting for Chelsea. He is set to make his second debut at the club in the Europa League on Thursday. If he comes through the Europa test at midweek, Ballack should be available for seclection against Dortmund on Sunday.

Bayern Munich won the German title last season with Schalke finishing as runner-up five points back. Ballack's Bayer finished fourth, Dortmund fifth and Hamburg were seventh in the league table.

Milner Move Complete

In non-German news, Manchester City has sealed the deal for now-former Aston Villa winger James Milner a day after Roberto Mancini's club inked Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan. The English international Milner featured in Villa's opening round EPL fixture last Saturday, a 3-0 win over West Ham in which the want-away player scored in his final match. Milner received a warm applause from fans on being substituted late in the match as Villa claimed they were fighting to keep him. However, that seems to be a case of posturing more than anything.

Another reputedly unsettled Premiership player is Javier Mascherano, who also played a vital role for Liverpool in their opening week 1-1 draw to Arsenal. The Argentine captain is thought to be heading to one of Spain or Italy, but set up David N'Gog's goal at Anfield and was warmly received by the Kop.

The upcoming weekend matches include defending champion Chelsea away to Wigan. Runner-up Manchester United visit London to face Fulham, while Liverpool is involved in a second straight high-profile clash next Monday against Manchester City at Eastlands.

AWESOME! The Bundesliga is becoming stronger every year! Can't wait! I predict in 5 years the Bundesliga will overtake the Premier League and will be at the same level as the Spanish League! Thank you GolTV!

I aggree with Christin. On an overall strength meter I beleive the Bundesliga is already on par with La Liga it has 2 really big clubs and maybe 4-5 so so clubs. The Bundesliga is much more diversified were even the "big" clubs can get nocked off by any one.I am only dissapointed that GolTV does not show the opener between the two last champions Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich today. How come?

GolTV doesn't show the opening Bundesliga game because they haven't got a clue. They rather show replay after replay of meaningless games.

The Bundesliga is the most entertaining of all the European leagues in terms of entertainment, and the atmosphere at the matches is fantastic. I have been disappointed with GolTV moving from 4 games/week to the now delayed 2 games/week as well as the 30 minute truncated version of Hallo Bundesliga vs the old hour-long weekly show. Asif, is there a licensing issue that has caused these changes or are you simply focussing less on the German game? It seems it is very hard to get a straight answer on this. Thanks in advance.

I agree with Scott. When I signed up for Goltv three years ago you carried FOUR bundesliga matches each week (Friday, Saturday x2, and Sunday). Now its become bit of a sad joke. Week One and you didnt even show the opening match, FCB v Wolfsburg?! Please carry more Live matches. And enough with the TFC filler, already. We get it! Soccer fans don't need to see the pre-game show for a match that was played six day ago!!!

I'm disappointed with the lack of Bundesliga games shown on Gol TV. I have sent requests, but I don't get any response. They are brainwashed like so many others in thinking that people only watch the EPL and La Liga. Was I the only one watching the World Cup? probably, because they won't listen to this either.

I agree that there is too little Bundesliga matches, 4 was a descent number and you had a chance to see most team in action on a regular basis although it seem that Bayern and Dortmund are favorites. It might be more useful to watch a channel that shows Europa and Champions leagues to see more German teams playing.

I am furious that GOLTV doesnt cover all the Bayern games. This would be like a Premiership channel not showing Chelsea or Manchester United. Please get a clue GOLTV, week 3 and only one Bayern game so far. On saturday Bayern plays Bremen in a very big clash and you are showing the Dortmund vs. Wolfsburg match? What teh hell are you guys thinking, I'm very close to canceling this channel and will stream all my games from the FCB website....

Theis … I am all over that. GOLTV is really dropping the ball on Bundesliga coverage this season. Saturday & Sunday mornings should be wall to wall … LIVE coverage … GOLTV should NOT be playing TFC filler when some of the greatest games on the planet are being contested. And what has happened to Ray Hudson??? He is the single greatest asset that the GOLTV franchise have in terms of building an audience. He should "the VOICE" for as many premium Bundesliga and La Liga matches as possible. He is the guy that will draw people into watching games. I am sure that many soccer fans would rather tune into GOLTV to watch two lesser known clubs (say Kaiserslauten v.KC Koln) which is called by Ray Hudson and Phil Shoen, than any Barclays premiership match featuring similar mediocre clubs such as Fulham, Wolverhampton, Aston Villa, West Ham etc ... If GOLTV is to be successful it needs to be WAY more than TFC-TV.
