February 7, 2009Future Footballers is a National grassroots soccer program that brings top-tier player development clinics to groups of young players in 12 communities across Canada.
Hosted by local soccer associations, these clinics will help these Future Footballers develop their technical, emotional and training skills from world-class Canadian Internationals Christine Sinclair & Jim Brennan.
Clinic Instructors
Jim Brennan
A member of the Canadian men's national team since 1999, Jim Brennan (Newmarket, ON) is the captain of Toronto FC. A defender, Brennan has presented Canada in 47 international contests, totalling six goals. During Toronto FC’s inaugural season, Brennan was selected to the 2007 MLS All-Star inactive roster and was named TFC’s ‘Defender of the Year’. He also shared club MVP honors with Carl Robinson.
Christine Sinclair
A member of the 2008 Canadian women’s Olympic team, Christine Sinclair (Burnaby, B.C.) has accumulated a total of 119 international caps and is Canada’s all-time leader in goals scored with 91. Clinic Format
The Future Footballers program is targeted at players from 8 to 16 years old. Each clinic will have a group warmup session with GolTV coaches Jim Brennan, Christine Sinclair and two provincial coaches. Three 40 minute training sessions will focus on the folllowing key areas:
- Passing & Control
- Dribbling
- Shooting
- Crossing
- Possession
- Defending
- 5 v 5 games
At the conclusion of the training session, players will also have an opportunity to listen to Christine and Jim discuss their experiences as an international footballer, as well as obtain autographs from the Canadian soccer stars.
For their participation in the Future Footballers program, players will receive a GolTV souvenir bag containing GolTV merchandise, a GolTV flash drive with the latest instructional video clips, and a Future Footballers diploma signed by clinic directors.
